Sometimes we feel like we are our own worst enemy! Making and breaking promises, backwards and forwards with decisions and not sticking to behaviour changes we know we need! It’s like we have different parts of ourselves with different goals, motivations and intentions!
Parts Integration is a therapeutic approach used in psychology and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) that looks at the idea that our psyche is composed of different parts and that each of those parts has its own perspective, emotions, beliefs and motivations. The aim is to help these various parts communicate and collaborate better, leading to a more integrated and harmonious sense of self.
The process of NLP Parts Integration encourages you to identify parts of yourself that you think may be in conflict or causing distress. These can represent things like your “inner critic,” your “inner child,” or your “ambitious self.” By acknowledging and understanding these different parts, you can then work towards integrating them, cooperating with them, and reducing the internal conflicts you have. This can lead to better emotional well-being, self-awareness, and a more balanced and authentic sense of self.
Being at war with ourselves internally often implies that we are in a state of inner conflict which can manifest as emotional distress, indecisiveness, self-sabotaging behaviour, or a sense of being stuck. Unresolved past experiences, conflicting values, or unmet emotional needs are all examples of factors that can cause this.
Internal conflict can be really distressing. It can impact things like your relationships, work, and well-being, leading to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and a lack of fulfilment.
Fixing these internal conflicts often requires plenty of self-reflection, self-compassion, and sometimes the guidance of a mental health professional, mindset coach, NLP practitioner or therapist. You can use techniques like mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and NLP parts integration which I mentioned above, to help address these conflicts and resolve them so that you can grow and build yourself up to the person you deserve to be and know you can be.
